Emergency Food and Shelter Program

The Emergency Food and Shelter Program is a Federal program administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. This program “supplements and expand ongoing efforts to provide shelter, food and supportive services” for the nation’s hungry, homeless and people in economic crisis.

A local board of directors meets quarterly to assess community needs and allocate these dollars to appropriate organizations. United Way of Greenwood and Abbeville Counties serves as the conduit for these funds and coordinates the ad functions of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) Local Board.
